  1. 2 tier gout support.
    September 22, 2016

I’ve just had this idea about improving gout support. I’ve not given it too much thought yet. I want to discuss it with my fellow gout sufferers about the best way to implement it. At the moment, members can mark topics as Support Requests, which increases their priority. Support topics are mixed in the general help forum. This includes non-questions, and questions with so little information, they can’t be considered real gout questions. I suggest we change ‘Please Help My Gout’ to ‘General Gout Discussion’. Then, add new support forums – 1 for each Gout Group. This would need explanation pages. 1 ...

  2. What questions should we ask the gout specialist?
July 22, 2018What questions should we ask the gout specialist?

Hi Guys, I would very much value your feedback on what questions we should be asking the rheumatologist we are seeing privately on Tuesday – having finally given up on trying to get timely responses in the NHS. I first posted on the forum a few months ago, and following the excellent advice given, my husband’s gout attacks have improved – but not stopped. Even after two years of treatment, lifestyle change and dietary change, he’s still getting regular flares every three weeks or so, which he dials back with NSAIDS and colchicine. He’s sixty three, and his level ...

  4. 7 months gout pain and counting!
August 7, 20187 months gout pain and counting!

Hi I’m a 41-year-old male who had my first gout attack out of the blue at the beginning of the year. Hobbled around for a couple of weeks but gradually recovered to a more moderate discomfort. However, I was continuing to have daily minor flares and to cut a long story short am now on 300 Allopurinol per day. This has reduced my uric acid level from 439 in Jan to a level 220ish over the last couple of months. Despite this (and apart from a brief 2 weeks spell with no symptoms), my toe has shown various states of redness along ...

Hi all, not really sure where to start. I had my first 2 gout attacks this year in January and March. I’m a 30 year old male. 5ft 11″ and at the time weighed 208lb. I went to the doctor and had a UA reading of 9. He prescribed me a months worth of Naproxen (an NSAID) and told me to diet and exercise. This was about three weeks ago. I have since worked hard on my general health, avoiding high purine food. Zero alcohol consumption. Taking cherry supplements and vitamin C supplements. Drinking plenty of water!!! I started working out ...

  7. Colchicine febuxostat and uric acid blood test results
August 9, 2018Colchicine febuxostat and uric acid blood test results

@nobody Thought we’d have the discussion here as its pretty much a random general discussion about our situation with no real co-relation to colchicine dosing anymore 🙂 the rheumatologist was also pretty shocked to see such a long standing attack. By the way, assuming one doesn’t take colchicine will the inflammation eventually go on its own..? re: “hardocore” Ah right. So what dose are you taking now then? re: overconfident So how long have you been on febuxostat prior to this attack. I know crystals can linger around for possibly years but when did you actually start taking febuxostat after learning you have gout? re: my ...

August 22, 2018Sausage fingers and gout medicine reactions

Hi Keith. I had a first gout attack in December 2016 in my ankle which led to an arthroscopy and crutch use. Since then have been on a course of probenecid as I had a quick allergic reaction to allopurinol. My uric acid levels never went below 6 on this medicine. My doctor in Indonesia (I am an English teacher from UK) said febuxostat was available and advised swapping over. I tried 80mg a day and after 4 days had an allergic reaction again. I had to take antihistamine and then go back onto probenecid. I have had swollen fingers when ...
